Serving with Purpose: Honoring Marine Veteran Moises Garibay
This Veterans Day, Dependable proudly honors the men and women across our organization who have served our country in uniform. Their courage, discipline, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to something greater than themselves are values that extend far beyond military service. These principles continue to shape how they lead, collaborate, support their colleagues, and make a difference every day.
This quarter, we are proud to spotlight one of our own: Moises Garibay, Customer Specialist at our City of Industry office and an eight-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps. His journey reflects the enduring power of service, the importance of teamwork, and the impact of carrying a mission-driven mindset into every chapter of life.
A Calling That Began After High School
After graduating from high school, Moises faced an important decision about his future. College was an option, but he felt drawn to a different path.
“I was thinking of going to college at the time, but I decided the Marines was a better path for me,” Moises recalls.
That decision would shape the next eight years of his life, instilling values and lessons that continue to guide him personally and professionally.
Moises was assigned to communications and served with November Battery 514, an artillery unit stationed in Seal Beach, California. He began his military career as a tactical switchboard operator, serving as a field wireman responsible for establishing and maintaining hardline communications within the unit. The work demanded precision, technical knowledge, and reliability—from laying communication lines to connecting legacy radio systems and ensuring dependable communication across the team.
“I was responsible for setting up communication lines and ensuring reliable communication, both internally and externally,” he says. “Our main priority was maintaining communication within the artillery unit on the ground, making sure everyone was connected and able to communicate effectively. In our line of work, communication was essential to keeping the unit coordinated and mission-ready.”
As his experience grew, so did his responsibilities. Over the course of his eight years of service, Moises cross-trained as a radio operator and advanced into satellite and global communications. These increasingly technical responsibilities required adaptability, problem-solving, and a deeper understanding of complex communication systems.
His service also provided opportunities to work alongside international military partners, including participation in joint training exercises with allied forces in the Republic of Georgia. These experiences broadened his perspective, strengthened his ability to work across teams, and reinforced the importance of coordination, trust, and a shared mission.
Back in Seal Beach, Moises took on a leadership role, supporting more than 150 Marines across the unit. His contributions centered on teamwork, mentorship, accountability, and helping others uphold the highest standards physically, mentally, and professionally.
“We call them our brothers and sisters,” he says. “Working together in a cohesive unit, holding the highest standard possible physically, mentally, and spiritually. Helping each other learn and grow.”
For Moises, service was about more than fulfilling a responsibility. It was about being part of something bigger than himself, looking out for those beside him, and helping build a team that could rely on one another when it mattered most.
He also volunteered for one of the Marine Corps’ most solemn responsibilities: participating in 21-gun salute ceremonies honoring fallen veterans. The experience carried profound personal meaning and represented a deep respect for those who had made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country.
“That was very honorable for me,” he says. “To be trusted with that role meant a lot.”
Moises proudly completed his military service in 2020, carrying forward a lasting commitment to honor, responsibility, and service to others.
Values That Never Retire
For Moises, leaving the Marine Corps did not mean leaving its values behind. As he transitioned into civilian life and built his career in logistics and transportation, he continued to apply the principles that had shaped his military experience: accountability, effective communication, trust, safety, and teamwork.
“The Marine Corps gave me far more than just a title. It gave me a purpose, discipline, resilience, leadership, and a lifelong commitment to serving something greater than myself,” he says. “Those values continue to guide me every day, both personally and professionally.”
That mindset has become a foundation for how Moises approaches challenges, works alongside colleagues, and contributes to the success of the broader team. Whether coordinating operations, communicating with partners, or stepping in to help a colleague, he believes that reliability and accountability are not simply expectations—they are commitments.
His military experience reinforced a lesson that remains just as relevant in the transportation industry as it was in uniform: success depends on people who communicate effectively, take ownership of their responsibilities, and understand that every role contributes to a larger mission.
A New Mission at Dependable
Moises joined Dependable’s City of Industry team in March 2026, bringing with him a strong foundation in teamwork, adaptability, and mission-focused execution. Since joining the organization, he has continued to expand his knowledge through cross-training and hands-on experience across multiple areas of the reefer customer service team, supporting refrigerated shipments moving across the country.
He began with load tracking, expanded his experience into payables, and now focuses on scheduling. Each transition has presented an opportunity to learn, contribute, and better understand the interconnected responsibilities that keep operations moving efficiently.
“If a team member is down, I jump in and support wherever I can,” he says. “That’s what teamwork looks like.”
For Moises, supporting the team means remaining flexible, sharing responsibility, and being willing to step beyond his immediate role when needed. It is an approach shaped by his military background and reinforced by his belief that collective success depends on individual commitment.
Safety remains equally important. In scheduling, decisions can directly affect drivers, delivery execution, and everyone involved in moving a shipment responsibly. Moises approaches these responsibilities with the same attention to detail and sense of accountability that guided him during his military service.
“Safety has been paramount for me since the Marines,” he says. “That hasn’t changed.”
At Dependable, Moises has found an environment that reflects many of the qualities he valued during his time in the Corps: strong leadership, supportive teammates, a sense of camaraderie, and opportunities for continued growth. He appreciates being part of an organization where collaboration matters and where veterans are recognized and respected for both their service and the strengths they bring to the workplace.
“I’m proud and honored to be part of an organization like Dependable that recognizes, respects, and honors our veterans. Just as we served our country with pride, we continue to serve and support the people around us. True leadership is about putting others first and looking out for one another,” Moises says.
A Legacy of Service
Moises’ journey is a reminder that service does not end when the uniform comes off. The discipline developed through military training, the trust built among teammates, and the responsibility that comes with looking out for others can continue to make a meaningful difference throughout a lifetime.
His commitment to learning, supporting colleagues, prioritizing safety, and contributing wherever he is needed reflects a spirit of service that transcends roles and industries. These are the qualities Dependable is proud to recognize—not only on Veterans Day, but throughout the year.
To Moises and all the veterans who are part of the Dependable family: thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and the values you continue to bring to our organization. Your contributions strengthen our teams, enrich our culture, and remind us of the importance of serving something greater than ourselves.
