A Foundation Built on Vision
Dependable’s story began in 1950 when founder Harry Massman launched a local delivery company in Los Angeles with a single bobtail truck and a simple goal: provide dependable transportation services customers could trust. While the company’s early operations were modest, the values established during those formative years—integrity, reliability, hard work, and exceptional service—became the foundation for everything that followed.
That foundation entered a new chapter in 1964 when Ron Massman joined the family business after earning a transportation-focused degree from UCLA. After gaining experience across sales, dispatch, operations, and administration, Ron became President in 1968. His hands-on understanding of the business helped shape his vision for Dependable’s future: expanding beyond traditional transportation services to become an integrated logistics partner capable of supporting a broader range of customer needs.
Ron was then joined by his brother Bob in 1973, further strengthening the Massman family’s involvement as the company continued to expand its transportation and logistics capabilities. Bob built his career within the company, working his way up from dockworker to truck driver, dispatcher, and account executive before becoming Vice President. His firsthand experience across the business became another example of the hands-on expertise that helped shape Dependable as the company continued to grow.
Growing Alongside the Supply Chain Industry
As customer needs evolved, so did Dependable. Over the decades, the company expanded beyond transportation, adding warehousing, harbor drayage, ocean freight forwarding, third-party logistics, and international services. Strategic investments, facility expansions, and new capabilities allowed Dependable to grow alongside an increasingly complex supply chain while providing customers with more comprehensive solutions.
Each stage of that growth represented an investment in expanding Dependable’s capabilities while remaining focused on delivering reliable service. From its early transportation roots to its broader logistics operations today, the company has continued to adapt to changing market needs and build on the foundation established more than seven decades ago.
